Frequently Asked Questions
Who can participate in teacher training?
Anyone is welcome to participate as long as they have have some experience in the system they want to study. Many of our teacher training students are dancers or athletes, but we also have students who are simply inspired by the positive results they’ve experience and want help others experience the same kind of results.
When are courses offered?

How do I get started, and how do I become certified to teach?
Each process is outlined below. Please take a moment to review the steps, then contact us for additional information.
What happens after I finish my training?
As a certified teacher, you’ll have a lot of options:
- open your own studio (or work from your home)
- work at an existing fitness or dance studio
- teach in a school (public or private)

Teacher Training Process
Gyrotonic® Teacher Training

Private Lessons
Take some private lessons and become familiar with the Gyrotonic® techniques.

Gyrotonic® Pre-Training Course
- Duration: 6 sessions (taken either consecutively or in two 3-day segments)
- Goal: Learn movement material for your own body and understanding
- Base price : $850 (+ $150 studio fee)

Gyrotonic® Foundation Course
- Duration: 12 sessions (must begin within 3 months of Pre-Training completion)
- Goals:
- Apply and develop the teaching skills learned in the Foundation course.
- Gain experience working with different bodies in real life teaching situations.
- Base price: $1500 (+ $150 studio fee)

Apprentice Teaching
- Duration: 60 hours
- Goals:
- Put into practice the information learned in Pre-Training and Foundation Courses
- Gain client experience.
Apprentice teachers can also charge for their sessions, allowing them to earn a little cash while working through the program. We generally recommend that apprentice teachers keep their fees low, gradually increasing them once they’ve complete their training.

Supervised Apprentice Hours Course
- Duration: 6 days (consecutive or two 3-day segments)
- Goals:
- Assessment by a Master Trainer
- Deepening understanding of the Gyrotonic® system.
- Addressing issues and questions that may have come up with clients during apprentice teaching.
- Base price: $700 (+ $100 studio fee)

- Duration: 3 days
- Goals:
- Learn more layers of information and understanding of the movement and teaching applications.
- Base price: $250 (+ estimated $100 studio fee)
Gyrokinesis® Teacher Training

Private Lessons or Group Classes
Take some private lessons or group classes and become familiar with the Gyrokinesis® techniques.

Gyrokinesis® Pre-Training course
- Duration: 6 sessions (taken either consecutively or in two 3-day segments)
- Goal: Familiarize students with basic course material.
- Base price : $550 (+ $150 studio fee)

Gyrokinesis® Foundation Course
- Duration: 9 sessions (must begin within 3 months of Pre-Training completion)
- Goals:
- Learn Gyrokinesis® teaching applications.
- Build on material learned in Pre-Training.
- Receive Certificate of Apprenticeship.
- Base price: $950 (+ $100 studio fee)

Apprentice Teaching
- Duration: 30 hours
- Goals:
- Apply and develop the teaching skills learned in the Foundation course.
- Gain experience working with different bodies in real life teaching situations.

STOTT PILATES Instructor Training
We hold STOTT Pilates course at the studio as a satellite of Equilibrium Studio. Equilibrium handles registration and administration for these courses, please direct your questions, registration and application information to Jamila at Equilibrium Studio.
Both Matwork and Reformer courses available. Certification in Matwork and/or Reformer courses available.
Two training tracks available:
- Comprehensive (for those with little or no prior experience with movement teaching or training, includes additional costs for anatomy courses and longer training and observation period)
- Intensive (for those with a movement teaching background and understanding of functional anatomy)
Comprehensive Matwork & Reformer (CMR)
Learn the biomechanical principles of STOTT Pilates exercises and their application to the Level 1 (Essential and Intermediate) Matwork and Reformer repertoire. This course teaches you to design, teach and modify Essential and Intermediate level classes, integrating small equipment to add variety and to meet the specific needs of your clients. Intensive Mat- Plus (IMP)
IMP provides you with the solid foundation and skills you need to develop effective and motivating group and personal training programs. This course teaches you to design and teach the Level 1 (Essential and Intermediate) Matwork repertoire, integrating light accessories to add variety and meet the specific needs of your clients. Intensive Reformer (IR)
This course teaches how to design and instruct Level 1 (Essential and Intermediate) Reformer workouts in personal or group training settings for a range of clients. While IR may be taken prior to IMP, we recommend completing IMP first. More information about Intensive Reformer at Equilibrium Studio.
